What changed in each release, newest first.

0.6.0 — October 1, 2026

  • Browsers can't route around blocks — Browsers' DNS-over-HTTPS is now switched off through standard enterprise-policy files (Firefox, Mullvad Browser, Chromium, Chrome, Brave) so blocks apply in them. Those browsers show a “managed by your organization” notice and need one restart after installing. DoH stays off while GrepFocus is installed; grepfocusd cleanup or uninstalling restores the files.
  • Enforcement health — The Status tab reports enforcement problems and sends a desktop notification when a new one appears. Settings shows the app and service versions plus a diagnostics line.
  • Block content validated — Pasted URLs are trimmed to their hostname and malformed entries are refused, so a typo can't silently leave a site unblocked.
  • Safer app blocking — App blocking never kills root processes (system services, apps launched with sudo or pkexec) or GrepFocus itself.
  • AppImage updates and installer fixes — When the app is newer than the installed service, the Status tab offers Update system service. The first-run install now works on Debian/Ubuntu.
  • Update check — The app checks grepfocus.com once a day for a newer release. Only the version number is exchanged and nothing is downloaded; it's explained on first launch and can be turned off in Settings.
  • AppImage — One download that runs on most Linux distros. On first launch it offers to install the background service for you — no package manager needed.
  • Arch Linux — An AUR package is on the way — the packaging ships with this release, and the download page's Arch row switches on the moment it's published.
  • Week grid in every block — Each block's card now shows its schedule as a compact weekly grid, so you can see a block's week at a glance without leaving it.
  • Smarter schedule names — New schedules start out named after their block.

0.4.0 — July 28, 2026

  • Instant breaks — The moment a break starts, blocked sites are reachable again — even in tabs you already had open. No browser extension, no setup; it works out of the box.
  • Week overview — A new tab in Stats showing your week at a glance.
  • New app icon — A fresh icon in your app menu and tray.

  • Break policies — Break allowances are now policies: cap breaks per day, per rolling window, or per break — available on the free tier.
